“The idea that sex is something a woman gives a man, and she loses something when she does that, which again for me is nonsense. I want us to raise girls differently where boys and girls start to see sexuality as something that they own, rather than something that a boy takes from a girl.”

— Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Circumstances defines who I am

When someone dies in the Ghetto, stories are plotted about their untimely death. People fabricate rumours and spread lies about what they really think took  place or a grounds for the death of that person.

Many people cannot grasp the concept that someone can simply not like you and decide that in order for them to feel better about their own lackluster existence they must get rid of you. They believe that bad things like death by violence only happens to people who did wrongs and thus their deaths are reprisals for their wrongdoing.

This kind of mindset provides a safety net for people. It keeps many a man from going insane thinking that we are game in a hunt and can be picked off anytime by some unforeseen sniper. It gives us a sense of security that if we do good and live our lives well then no one will consider taking our lives.

No one wants to really believe that there are people in this world so nefarious as to see a human being as nothing but mere nuance that can be easily eliminated. It is true. Our existence is rather fragile. We have a frail lifespan that can be aborted at anytime. We have no immunity from premature death because our everyday interactions bring us in contact with people who can any day,at anytime, with or without reason take our lives.

None of us are immune from injustices on this country. We might think that we are important in our little niches but in the grand scheme of things or where it matters most we are even at our best inconsequential.

This young man allegedly owns a BMW X5 and police killed him and hurl him into the back of their van like a dog. How many people in Jamaica own a BMW X5 police can treat so? It does not matter what you have, once you re not known by the right kind of people or even recognized by those who control this planetary system of things, you are unimportant and a nobody.
