Badmind from the book Acute Ghetto-Itis

Bad mind is a complex emotion. Bad mind is a , it had no roots, its self created, it does not need a stimulus.  It often stems from feelings of shame or hatred  over the accomplishments of others. 

Badmind compels people to do vicious, unreasonable, irrational and imprudent acts. It is a strong emotions that moves the simple minded to concoct convoluted schemes often to subvert the achievements of their targets. 

Bad mind is augmented in situations when the envied position is not easily attainable or duplicated. Sometimes bad mind evolves from not a physical or social issue such as economical position but seeing one as a rival due to one's psychological state. People bad mind others for their lifestyle, intellectuality, friends, spouse, cars and houses. It is not a feeling of mere discontent, it is an evolution of loathing brought about by the inconveniences of a small minded person. 

The comparative nature of our society in evaluating people's individual values juxtapose with that of others is a feeding ground for badmanism. Bad mind people want nothing good for those they see as rivals. Their dislike is unfounded, without fault, provocation or incite. Bad mind has nothing to do with the victim, but everything to do with the psyche of the perpetrator. 

Bad mind people hate the fortunes of others. They see every one's success with distress, they become angry and  disgruntled by even small feat. Bad mind people cannot appreciate what they have because they are too busy comparing themselves with others not knowing that they cannot do more that their genetic limitations. Bad mind people are committed to fomenting the demise of others, they get satisfaction from seeing people fail. 

Economy of the Ghetto

The economy of the Ghetto is a system of hustling and what is called a "roast". Getting paid for manual labour,making sufficient money so that they can meet their nutritional needs for one day and then they will hustle tommorrow again for food for that day. 

There is nothing to save. It's not even suffice for creating balance meals for a family. Children have to get school fee and the money pinched in order to save for bills,hire purchase or the hundred dollars a day partner. 

A lot of people don't understand how the partner helps out the poor man. He can pool his money with his neighbors and save then he collect a lumpsum. This lumpsum can go towards extending his house or paying for the tertiary education of his child. 

 There is no guarantees, just faith and hope that something will turn up the next day that will allow one to subsist. It is a game of survival. Life is not a luxury but many would rather be alive than dead because as long as they are alive then there is a hope. It does not matter what is going on in a Ghetto person's life, it is all about being here, as long as one has life, one has a chance of changing his circumstances. 

The lure of illicit activities in the Ghetto is real. It offers an opportunity to change the economical circumstances. The money is fast and it is often in large amounts. Poor people believe that money will make their lives a bliss. Therefore they believe that the pursuit of money is the ultimately goal. They will find out in time that money does not solve their problems. 

When a Ghetto person is poor, no one sees him. When he shows sign of making money, he incurs the attention of his community who will invariably expect him to share his spoils with them. If he refuses then he is seen as being traitorous to the identity of the Ghetto and seen as someone who "switched". 

Bad Men within the community will begin to use badness and threats to solicit money from the newly rich Ghetto person. The individual understanding the intricacies of the Ghetto and will comply if he wants to spare the lives of him and his family. 

If he decides to resist the demands of extortionist then he must leave his natal community. He understands that his life is in jeopardy. He can leave or form his own army to protect himself. Hence the connection between illicit money and crime. Where there's an illegal operation accruing profits, men offering bodyguard services and "strong arms" will no doubt gravitate to that person because a "food haffi eat".  Illicit money fuels crime. 

Ten evidence Jamaican Politicians do not care about Nation Building

1. Politician spends fifty million renovating his home when many schools are without computers and children in kindergarten needs to be exposed to the wonders of technology by using toy learning computers. Why not spend some of that money on education in Jamaica. 

2. Ministers of state and their delegation teams racking up twenty million for business, luxury trips abroad while hospitals and many government agencies  are in dire need of computerization for its records. So many computer programmers and smart innovators without jobs and having to migrate when they are so many avenues for employment that need development. Wake up Jamaica's Government. 

3. Fruits that children using to stone dog like Noni, almonds and tamarind fruits are very expensive abroad and are in high demand abroad. Full time government seek some alternative agricultural products to develop and export to build the country's economy. 

4. Lift the ban on Ganja. Marijuana is making waves in the medical world as a holy grail of remedial products geared at fueling optimal health in its usage. The manufacturing and exportation of Ganja would provide jobs for youths and boost the countries revenue through export income. 

5. The Jamaican Politicians should use some of the money spent on putting on Galas and buying expensive SUVs into creating a social welfare centers with social workers in violative communities to assist children and adults who live in commuters affected by degenerative social maladies. We know that social awareness and ethical orientation can transform values and morals in our society. 

6. Our government and private sector community should become committed to improving the technological aspect of policing and crime fighting sectors. We are in need of a DNA lab that can turn out results in twenty four hours. We need trained forensic detectives to process crime scene and lab technician to turn out results. Until we improve out forensic unit then we will not be able to fight crime and scare criminals into deterrence. We cannot depend entirely eye witness accounts in order to prosecute offenders. We need irrefutable evidence and in doing so, we would reduce the need for extrajudicial killings. We also need more forensics psychologist and therapy for police officers suffering from post traumatic stress disorders.

7. Use some of the loan money we accruing to build an aluminum refinery or sugar refinery.i cannot understand why we had to import the end product when we create the natural resource.

8. Offer people within the Jamaican diaspora opportunities for investment in real estates, entrepreneurship and technology.i cannot understand why people outside of Jamaica see potential in the development capabilities of the island and of its own people. Maybe we need to revamp our education system where most children would rather become a corporate slave than a business owner. Why can't the diaspora form companies and invest in developing Jamaica. Not just one individual but pool their money together. 

9. Reducing the cost of education and healthcare is vital to the growth of any nation. A healthy educated population yields high  returns that will contribute to the advancement of any society. The ministry of health must become committed to initiatives geared at improving mental health. It has become evident in recent times that mental health is a big issue in Jamaica. 

10. We need a change in representational politics. We cannot continue to have politicians with a 40 year career. We need to implement changes in our electing structure where a prime minister cannot do more than two terms in office. We also need a set retirement date for when a minister should leave politics. I believe politicians with outdated ideas are what is crippling our economy. Jamaica needs fresh minds with new ideas to lead us into the future. 

Jamaican Police Officers need Psychological Evaluation

The Jamaican society is expressing collective disgust for the surging crime rate. We do not insist that the police soften on criminals because criminals rarely if ever express any mercies for their victims. 

We however believe that under the tenets of our democracy and the statutes outlined by our constitution that we would prefer if alleged criminals entered judiciary process and legal processing instead of the hurling of corpse into Van backs. 

The police force in Jamaica do not understand how it affects their image when they commit extrajudicial killings and then the media report claims that it was a police shoot out and citizens on the ground know that it is a blatant lie and affront to the grieving families. 

We also need to bring attention to mental health in Jamaica. Most police officers suffer from post traumatic stress conditions and it maybe responsible for the high levels of verbal abuse and brutalities that they often subject civilians to. 

Many have to face marauding gun men and grisly crime scenes that will alter or compromise their mental conditions. They need a police therapy session to assist them in processing the psychological taxing of occupational stress. The police officer is a human being too. 

The Jamaican Constabulary Force hierarchy must keep in mind that police officers are cut from the same mold of the criminals that they hunt. Our society has a culture of deviance which is evident in the pervasive corruption that exist in all facets of the Jamaican society. 

There should be an ethics vetting and orientation programme for new recruits including essay writing to discover how cops will deal with a particular situation. New recruits are often force to confirm to the culture of archaic policing by commanding officers through buttress or threats. 

We cannot win the war on crime and violence if the civilians hates the police or the police believes he is superior to the citizens. The resentment is building and such a situation will only feed crime not stymie it. 

Crystal Evans Jamaica: The Writer

Good Morning 

Some one asked a friend of mine if "me can write book?"

Writing for Crystal Evans has never been about architecture or decorative language. Lie it can be like that sometimes. It is more about painting and sharing the canvass. I once told someone that I merely write what I see with my eyes. It's the same experiences that you talk about the only difference is that I choose to put it on paper. 

My entire writing career has been an act of revision. I share the foibles of my experience with interest and sympathies for the human interactions I have. Even them (people) have not yet discovered that they are mere actors on a stage and that within a drop of water lays the entire universe. I don't create myths, I paint a portrait of truth.There is much revealed in our everyday interactions. The most humbling truths are discovered in ironies.  My eyes are my windows to the world. I may not become a great writer. But I have never found one writer that has written anything that I would call garbage because even fools and the insane have a story to tell, we can if we look deeper, learn from them. I aim to plant seeds in the minds of the youths that will come to fruition in their adulthood. Writing to me is the truest art, it is a superb talent because its invention has made dead men immortal and transform the tides of our future.
